How to Stay Motivated through the Holidays

The holiday season can be busy, fun, wonderful, full of temptations and downright stressful. By Mid-December, many people throw in the towel and give up until January.  Not only will this reverse your results, but the loss of momentum can last way beyond January 1.  Here are some ways to stay motivated and successful through the holidays.

  1. Get plenty of sleep.  Sleep deprivation and low energy could wear down your resolve.  Make a commitment to get at least 6-7 hours of sleep every night, and up to 8 hours as often as you can.
  2. Plan and prepare your meals the night before.  Having food on hand and prepared will make your plan much easier to stick to.  Everything is ready, and there’s no reason to stray.
  3. Remind yourself of your goal EVERY DAY, and the REASONS you want to lose weight.  Your reasons should be your own.  Ask yourself what you want and visualize it.  Say your goal outloud to yourself, or write notes to remind yourself. You can use photo reminders as your computer or smart phone wallpaper.  Make your goal your email password, and you will remind yourself several times a day.
  4. Start the day with a healthy breakfast.  Taking the time to eat right in the morning sets you up for success the rest of the day.
  5. Create daily short term goals.  Your goals can be about your food choices, your exercise, your water intake, your stress relief—whatever you need.  Break it down into doable parts.
  6. Surround yourself with supportive people.  Have a buddy, a sister, or your coach to help you stay on track and celebrate your successes. Stay away from saboteurs.  You know who they are.
  7. Remember that 80% is better than 0%.  Do the best you can.
  8. Keep your appointments with your Ideal Protein Coach, no matter what.  Your coach can give you support and help without judgment.
  9. Be kind to yourself.  There is no point in negative self criticism.
  10. Reward yourself!  When you meet your goals, treat yourself well.
